Our annual indoor Winter Open took place at the end of October, and 102 players entered, equaling our best-ever entry. They took part in a range of doubles events, with 108 matches played across both weekends and one midweek evening. Competitors ranged from age 13 upwards, and the standard and spirit of competition were superb all week.

Men’s Doubles
Another late-night spectacle of high-quality tennis, with the final finishing at 10.30pm. Kieran and Joel from Truro took the title, beating ARC members Bruno and Euan in the final.

Ladies’ Doubles
It was great to see our local ladies going toe to toe with two young players from the Devon and Cornwall County U18 Ladies Squad. Heidi and Katia (ARC and Cornwall) were the winners, with Teresa and Amanda (ARC and Braunton) finishing as runners-up.

Vets’ Men’s Doubles
Plenty of tiebreaks meant this event took up most of Saturday. Andy Koval and his partner Matt claimed the title from ARC members Damon and Paul. It was also great to welcome players from Devon Vets teams to the draw.

Vets’ Ladies’ Doubles
Twelve pairs entered. Sue and Ginny took the title after a real battle with Julie and Claire from Torquay, winning 11-9 in the Championship tiebreak.

Mixed Vets’ Doubles
A strong entry and lots of competitive play. ARC players dominated the final, with Dave Thresher and Alison Widdicombe beating Damon and Marian to take the title.

Mixed Doubles
The final event of the week didn’t disappoint. With a full draw, a waiting list and players from Devon, Cornwall and Wales, competition was fierce. After seven hours of continuous play, Ella and Kieran came out on top, beating Devon pairing Lily and Euan in a high-standard final. It was Kieran’s second ARC title of the week.
