Atlantic Racquet Centre is proud to share the inspiring story of one of our ARC Youth Racquet Yellow 2 players and Court Assistants, Sam, who recently returned from a life changing charity trip to Uganda.
Sam travelled with the incredible organisation Edukid, a charity dedicated to removing the barriers to education faced by children living in poverty and conflict.
During the trip, Sam and the Edukid team visited Wilacic Primary School, where they spent time with the pupils sharing activities and learning about the impact that access to education can have on young lives. ARC was delighted to support the visit by donating racquets and tennis balls for Sam to take along, as many as he could fit in his bag, giving the children the opportunity to try something completely new.
The equipment was put to great use, with the children enthusiastically playing together and enjoying their introduction to racquet sports.
As part of the visit, the group also spent time with a local family, hearing first-hand about the challenges they face. The team were able to support the family by providing essential items such as mattresses, clothing and livestock. When asked what they wanted most for their future, the family’s answer was simple: education for their children.
Thanks to the support of Edukid and its sponsors, all of the children in the family are now fully sponsored, meaning they will be able to progress through each stage of education without worrying about school fees.
Reflecting on the experience, Sam described the trip as truly life changing and highlighted the incredible work Edukid does to support children and families in Uganda.
Atlantic Racquet Centre is incredibly proud of Sam’s efforts and grateful to have been able to contribute in a small way by sharing the joy of racquet sports with the children.
