The Davis Cup Trophy Tour is Coming to ARC

We recently received the incredibly exciting news that Atlantic Racquet Centre has been chosen to be part of the Davis Cup Trophy tour, the only club in Devon to receive this honour. Head Coach Tom Vinall led a small team of volunteers who worked very hard to complete the successful bid application.

The Trophy is coming on Sunday September the 4th 2016 between 10am & 6pm. The day will be an incredibly exciting and busy day with hundreds of local people descending on ARC to take part in a multitude of free Tennis and sporting activities.

A host of local sporting celebrities and VIP’s have been invited to come and join in the fun on the day and honour the achievement of Team GB in winning the Davis Cup. The day will kick off at 10am with over 15 free Tennis activity sessions taking place including Mini Tennis, Cardio Tennis, Disability Tennis, Tennis Express, Touch Tennis and many more. Courts 5 & 6 will become our very own “Trophy Zone” for the day and will feature a Live Music stage showcasing the best of our young local music talent. It will also feature stalls and pop up stands from many local sports clubs and community groups and of course – the Davis Cup Trophy itself.

Head Coach Tom Vinall is delighted with the news – “It’s an incredible honour for Atlantic Racquet Centre to be chosen to host the Davis Cup, but more importantly it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to inspire a whole new generation of Tennis players in North Devon. This fantastic new facility, and inspiring young coaching team is ready waiting for them – hopefully having the chance to see and have a photo with the Tennis world cup will make them want to give Tennis a try”.

In the build up to hosting the Trophy, Tom & the other coaches will be visiting schools all over North Devon to offer them free tennis taster sessions before inviting them all to come and be a part of a mini school’s festival on the day.

Tom and club coach Andrew Hearn were also chosen to be part of the LTA’s Davis Cup Legacy Programme meaning that they will both be delivering FREE 6-week Tennis For Kids course aimed at 5-8 year old children who have never played the game before!
